Orientating a new uPaged nurse to your department or unit Follow
A quick welcome, introduction and orientation pays dividends to the team during shifts. It allows the nurse to hit the ground running, work more independently, practise safely, and enjoy efficient management of their time.
A good orientation should contain:
-
Fire emergency processes: escape paths, fire assembly location
-
Medical emergency processes: call system and the emergency trolley location
-
Team: In-charge, Manager and a Buddy Nurse
-
Amenities: Tea room, toilets and where to put their bag
-
Department layout: Room layout, clean and dirty utility, and where to find general equipment, dressing supplies and linen
-
Access to computer systems if required
